«Travel to Alphabethicus» will be liked by those who began reading magazines from the last page: the one where the fun stories and rebuses are located. It’s a book with fairy tales and game aids that poses challenges for the designer. At the end of each chapter there is a task that needs to be done directly on the page. It was important to arrange the tasks in the most convenient and understandable way possible so that the reader would not have problems with their performance. The artist Natasha Tkachenko tried to make the explanatory pictures of the tasks as interesting as possible. There’s a lot of action in the book, there’s a lot of plot twists, it’s reflected in the design, there’s something happening at every turn, there’s a puzzle hidden on the forzac.
For the main text, the script «Schoolbook» has been used, using the same, favorite, and all the textbooks of the junior classes. For the text of the tasks, the same typeface is drawn and the color selected is used. Thus, the text of the assignment is not confused with the text of the narrative. For the letters in the ribs, the Futura font came, it fits well into the squares and is not lost next to the fairly active drawings.
The book’s composite decision is based on the idea of a comic book. This form is ideal for our target audience — beginner readers — as it provides simplicity, visibility and emotional engagement. Key principles of visual decision include: — Page structure: 2-3 frames per page. — Rhythm: The classic rotation of large plans, which is typical of comic books. — Expressness: the increased expression of characters, which makes them reminiscent. Visual elements: The use of babbles for the dialogue and thought of characters. — Letters as characters: they act as heroes of the book and are part of the illustrations. Dynamic text elements: individual letters and short exclamations in babbles involve a child in reading through a picture.
To enhance emotional perception, we used: — Mixed technology: a combination of digital watermelon and a colour pencil creates the atmosphere and the tactileness of the plot. It is also fully consistent with the trends of modern illustrations around the world. — Color palette: Sun and warm shades give a sense of ease and appeal to the reading process. — Multiplier style: Simplified shapes and easy delivery of stories to feel the ease of the material and the rapid diving of the child into the material.
