This installation work constructs an interplay between steel grid structures from children’s playgrounds and silk portrait transference, interrogating the tensile dynamics of memory, maturation, and identity. The fissures emerging from the image transfer process materialize the ruptures inherent in memory reconstruction. The chromatic juxtaposition of vermilion and cobalt embodies the dialectic of childhood fervor versus adult detachment, manifesting the symbiotic tension between emotional resonance and rational cognition.
Childhood Cranium Caught in a Broken Grid
English Version Childhood Cranium Caught in a Broken Grid
This work repurposes a playground’s steel grid into a metaphor for memory and identity. Silk gauze printed with childhood portraits sways beneath the structure, creating fractured temporal vignettes.
Images were transferred via acrylic gel onto watercolor paper. Cracks formed during curing mirror memory’s inherent fragmentation—material traces of psychological rupture.
Red (childhood’s warmth) and blue (adulthood’s detachment) coexist without blending, embodying unresolved tension between emotion and reason.
Some portraits were transferred to film paper, cut, and collaged onto the work. Their fragmentation demands viewer reassembly, reflecting how we reconstruct childhood through present consciousness.
A meditation on memory’s materiality: like irreversible transfer loss, childhood persists only as absence and proof on the same broken surface.
